Biography

Junior Tidal  is the Multimedia and Web Services Librarian, Assistant Professor for the Ursula C. Schwerin Library at the New York City College of Technology of the City University of New York.

He has held this position since April, 2006. As Multimedia and Web Services librarian, he has conducted a variety of tasks including media collection development, reference support for students and faculty, server administration, web development, and supervising College Assistants for the library’s Multimedia Resource Center. He earned tenure during the fall of 2013.

His research interests include mobile web development, usability, web metrics, and information architecture. He has published in The Journal of Web Librarianship, OCLC Systems & Services, Computers in Libraries, and code4Lib Journal. He has presented at a number of conference organizations including the Consortium of College and University Media Centers, the Association of Library Communications Outreach Professionals, and the State University of New York Library Association. He has served as both a delegate and secretary for the Library Association of the City University of New York (LACUNY) and has co-chaired the group’s Emerging Technologies Committee. He had served as co-chair for New York City’s code4lib chapter from 2013-2014. He is active in the American Libraries Association, co-chairing the Library Information Technology Association (LITA) Interest Group: Library Code Year, Website Blog Coordinator for the Reference Users and Services Association (RUSA), and as a member of the ALA Video Roundtable Notables Committee.

Originally from Whitesburg, Kentucky, he has earned a MLS and a Master’s in Information Science from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Librarianship must run through his veins, as his mother is also a librarian.

When not in the library, Junior enjoys spending time listening to heavy metal music, cooking vegan meals, and cycling.
