Barbara Fister’s Take on Open Access

Barbara Fister is widely read here in my library.  She wrote a great post on the future of Open Access here. It’s quite fitting, as Open Access week is next week. The City Tech library has a few events lined up.

Scholarly publications and subscriptions are rising, yet library budgets are being cut. Already, top-tier research institution have the financial capabilities to uphold their subscriptions, but it’s unsustainable. Something has to change, and there are libraries and universities that are started to do this. Be it through open online repositories, or publishing their own materials, the landscape of scholarly communication is changing. Here’s the ACRL Scholarly Toolkit, which has more info.
