I do my best writing with music in the background.
I grew up in a household of 3 sisters and two very loud parents. There was always commotion going on at home and most of it was welcome. When I found studying in college, I found it difficult to concentrate at the library. It was too quiet and I needed something in the background to help me read. This usually meant packing a pair of headphones with a mixed tape or a CDR along with my school work and textbooks.
I’m still like that today. I need to have something in the background to help me focus. Here’s what I’ve been listening to today while writing my upcoming book on mobile usability:
Red Sparowes is an instrumental prog band from Los Angeles.
Russian Circles is another instrumental band from Chicago.
Godspeed You! Black Emperor is from Canada. They are probably one of the loudest bands I have seen live.
