Government shutdown will close LOC and its websites

News from the Library of Congress September 27, 2013 Advisory: Possible Federal Shutdown In the event of a temporary shutdown of the federal government, beginning Tuesday, October 1, all Library of Congress buildings will close to the public and researchers. There’s a current thread on code4lib about how a government shutdown will effect linked data and semantic web applications. Kind of scary how far reaching the government shutdown is for an internet filled with linked government data. :/

Library Holiday Staff Party

A colleague and myself was tasked with creating a lively playlist for our staff holiday party. This is it:

My colleague removed the 4 Skinz holiday song and added a great James Brown holiday record. Regardless, I still think this was a success.

Props to another colleague who recommended The Pogues’ Fairytale of New York. If it was up to me, we would listen to nothing but Slayer’s Seasons in the Abyss and a couple of Burzum records for a holiday party.
